Butcher arrested in Vijayawada canal murder; tattoo aided identification

Authorities in Vijayawada have arrested butcher Shafi, 45, on charges of murdering a woman identified as Kalyani, also known as Durga, and disposing of her body in the VTPS cooling canal. According to police, Shafi killed the woman following a financial dispute between the two and subsequently dumped her remains in the canal with assistance from an accomplice.
The victim's identification was made possible through a tattoo found on her body, which proved instrumental in the investigation. Police say this distinctive marking helped them confirm her identity when the body was recovered from the canal.
Shafi's accomplice, who allegedly aided in disposing of the body, has been detained for questioning as the investigation progresses. Police are continuing their inquiry to establish the complete sequence of events leading to the crime and to determine the precise motive behind the alleged murder.
The case has drawn attention to the occurrence of crimes along industrial waterways in the region. Authorities have intensified surveillance and investigation protocols in areas adjacent to major water bodies used for cooling purposes at thermal power stations.
