BUTUAN CITY — Residents of Butuan City are enduring extreme heat conditions, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) recording heat index levels between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius since Tuesday, November 3.
The sustained high temperatures have prompted local health officials to issue advisories urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Officials have recommended increased water consumption, limited outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and monitoring of vulnerable populations including children and the elderly.
The severe weather has also sparked growing calls on social media for suspension of in-person classes. Parents and educators have expressed concern over the safety of students attending physical classes in the oppressive heat.
Data from Pagasa's Regional Services Division documented the extreme conditions affecting the Agusan del Sur capital. The agency has continued monitoring atmospheric conditions in the area as residents await relief from the prolonged heat wave.
