BYD taps Inokom for local vehicle assembly operations in Malaysia

BYD has appointed Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Sime Motors, to undertake local assembly of its vehicles in Malaysia. The selection follows a detailed evaluation of the domestic market landscape and existing manufacturing infrastructure across the country.

The partnership marks a significant expansion of BYD's operations in Malaysia, leveraging Inokom's established automotive manufacturing expertise and existing facilities. Inokom, which has considerable experience in vehicle assembly and production, was identified as the optimal partner to support BYD's growth objectives in the region.

The arrangement reflects BYD's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asian markets through localised production capabilities. By establishing assembly operations with an experienced local partner, BYD aims to enhance supply chain efficiency and better serve the Malaysian automotive market.

Details regarding production timelines, vehicle models to be assembled, and investment commitments were not immediately available. The partnership is expected to contribute to the local automotive sector's development and employment generation.
