The Cabinet has endorsed a resolution presented by the President in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development to formalize an agreement with the Asian Development Bank for the substantial financial injection. The policy-based facility totals $100 million, comprising $50 million from the ADB's Regular General Capital Resources and an additional $50 million from a second tranche of the same funding mechanism.

The financial package is designated to support the Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Program's second sub-program phase, reflecting the government's commitment to enhancing water infrastructure and sanitation services across the island nation. The ADB facility represents a significant investment in improving access to clean water and upgraded sanitation facilities for Sri Lankan communities.

The approval follows standard Cabinet procedures and comes as part of Sri Lanka's broader efforts to strengthen its water management infrastructure. The development finance arrangement underscores ongoing cooperation between Colombo and multilateral development institutions in addressing critical infrastructure needs.

Details regarding implementation timelines, project components, and specific geographic areas to benefit from the program are expected to be outlined in subsequent project documentation and agreements between the government and the ADB.
