The Cabinet granted approval for the construction initiative during its meeting on September 15, 2026, marking a significant development for higher education infrastructure in the Northern Province. The new building is intended to house modern facilities designed to enhance teaching and research capabilities within the allied health sciences discipline.
Following Cabinet endorsement, authorities have initiated a competitive bidding process adhering to the National Competitive Procurement Procedure. This approach aims to ensure transparent contractor selection and optimal value for public investment in the project.
The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Jaffna has operated within existing infrastructure constraints. The new facility is expected to provide improved laboratory spaces, educational amenities, and research infrastructure to support academic programs in fields such as nursing, physiotherapy, and related health disciplines.
The project represents part of broader government efforts to strengthen tertiary education infrastructure across provincial universities. Upon completion, the facility is anticipated to enhance the university's capacity to deliver quality professional health sciences education and training to students in the Northern region.
