The government has cleared the establishment of the Integrated Transport Logistics Authority (ITLA), a move aimed at breaking down silos in transport infrastructure development across the country. The authority will serve as a coordinating mechanism to align planning and policy implementation across traditionally separate transportation networks.
The ITLA's key mandate will include preparing comprehensive transport master plans spanning more than a decade, enabling a cohesive vision for India's mobility infrastructure. The authority will also conduct project appraisals for major initiatives valued at ₹500 crore and above, ensuring alignment with broader strategic objectives.
A critical function of the new body will be data integration and sharing across roads, railways, ports and aviation sectors. This consolidated approach is expected to improve coordination between different modes of transport and eliminate redundancies in infrastructure planning and development.
The establishment of ITLA represents an institutional effort to address fragmentation in India's transport sector, where planning and execution have historically occurred within separate departmental silos. Officials view the unified authority as essential for optimizing resource allocation and creating synergies across the country's expanding transportation network.
The implementation timeline and specific operational structure of the ITLA will be determined by relevant government departments in the coming weeks.
