Cabinet greenlights ₹24,815 crore railway expansion across UP, Andhra Pradesh

The Union Cabinet has cleared a comprehensive rail infrastructure development package worth ₹24,815 crore across Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, marking a substantial investment in the country's transportation backbone. The multi-tracking projects will span 15 districts in both states, substantially augmenting the existing Indian Railways network.

The initiative aims to expand the national rail network by approximately 601 kilometres, with the Ghaziabad-Sitapur project serving as its cornerstone. Valued at ₹14,926 crore, this corridor will establish a critical transportation link bridging India's northern and eastern regions, facilitating enhanced freight and passenger movement between these economically significant areas.

The projects are expected to address existing capacity constraints and improve overall rail connectivity in regions identified as priorities for infrastructure development. By expanding multi-tracking infrastructure, the initiative will enable faster movement of goods and passengers while reducing congestion on existing stretches.

The Cabinet's approval signals the government's commitment to modernizing rail infrastructure as part of its broader vision for improved regional connectivity and economic integration across the country. The projects are expected to commence implementation in the coming phases, with completion timelines to be determined by executing agencies.
