Cabinet raises wheat MSP by ₹25 for 2027-28 harvest season

The Union Cabinet has increased the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat by ₹25 per quintal, bringing it to ₹2,610 per quintal for the 2027-28 harvest season. The decision marks the government's continued effort to ensure remunerative prices for farmers across key crop categories.

While the wheat MSP increase remains modest, the cabinet has approved more substantial support measures for other critical agricultural commodities. The MSPs for pulses and oilseeds have been raised by considerably larger amounts, with increases ranging between ₹83 and ₹675 per quintal, representing hikes of 1.41 per cent to 10.32 per cent respectively. These varied support levels reflect the government's differentiated approach to addressing crop-specific market challenges.

The price announcements come as policymakers seek to maintain adequate agricultural incomes while managing food inflation concerns. By raising MSP levels across multiple crop categories, the government aims to incentivize farmers to maintain production levels of essential commodities that form the backbone of India's food security architecture.
