The Cabinet Secretary has issued directions to colleges across the country to develop and implement programmes that contribute to building an advanced Indian economy, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The move reflects the government's focus on aligning higher education with economic development goals. Educational institutions are being encouraged to design curricula and initiatives that prepare students for emerging sectors and evolving workforce demands.
Alongside the college directive, parallel instructions have been issued to develop a comprehensive model for increasing employability and upskilling opportunities for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) students. The model aims to address skill gaps and improve job readiness among vocational trainees.
Authorities are also reviewing the current system for awarding degrees to ITI graduates, with plans to restructure the methodology to better reflect competency levels and enhance recognition in the job market. These measures form part of a broader push to strengthen India's human capital and support economic advancement through improved vocational and higher education pathways.
