PETALING JAYA — The theft of signalling cables was responsible for delays of more than 30 minutes on KTMB's Komuter line during this morning's peak commuter period, the rail operator confirmed.
KTMB said the cable theft had disrupted the line's signalling system, affecting train operations and causing substantial backlogs for passengers relying on the service for their morning commute.
The operator did not immediately specify which section of the Komuter network was affected or provide details on the extent of the theft. A timeframe for full service restoration was not disclosed.
The incident marks another instance of infrastructure theft affecting Malaysia's public transport network. Cable theft has previously been identified as a recurring problem for rail operators in the country, often resulting in service disruptions and safety concerns.
KTMB advised commuters experiencing delays to check for updates through its official channels as the operator worked to restore normal service operations.
