CAF may reverse plan to make Africa Cup of Nations quadrennial
African football's governing body is reconsidering its decision to hold the continent's premier championship every four years rather than biennially, according to CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

The Confederation of African Football had previously announced plans to align the Africa Cup of Nations with the FIFA World Cup cycle by extending the tournament interval from two years to four. However, Motsepe indicated the decision may not be final, suggesting CAF could revert to the biennial format that has characterized the competition for decades.
The potential reversal reflects ongoing discussions within African football administration about the optimal scheduling for the tournament. The quadrennial model was intended to provide greater space in the football calendar and reduce fixture congestion for players and clubs, particularly those competing in European leagues.
No formal announcement has been made regarding when CAF will finalize its decision on the tournament's future scheduling. The Africa Cup of Nations remains one of world football's most prestigious competitions and a cornerstone event for African national teams.
