CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — City officials have unveiled plans for a major relocation of the municipal government, announcing construction of a new 'world-class government complex' valued at P8.5 billion to ease persistent urban congestion in the densely populated area.
The new administrative hub will be built on a 22.9-hectare site in the uptown area, representing a significant shift from the current downtown location where the city's main offices have traditionally been housed. The move is intended to decongest the congested central business district while modernizing government facilities.
According to Jann Guillmore Actub, spokesperson for the Office of the City Mayor, the project reflects the city's commitment to improving infrastructure and administrative efficiency as Cagayan de Oro continues to experience rapid urban growth.
The relocation initiative comes as the city grapples with mounting traffic challenges and the need for expanded government services to accommodate its growing population. Officials have not announced a specific timeline for the project's completion, though the development is expected to serve as a catalyst for broader urban development in the uptown corridor.
Cagayan de Oro remains one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in Mindanao, with the new government complex expected to serve as an anchor for future commercial and residential development in the region.
