Close to 600,000 children in Calabarzon have received measles-rubella vaccines as the region's supplemental immunization campaign continued Wednesday, according to the Department of Health Calabarzon.

The 'Ligtas Tigdas' drive has administered doses to 592,446 children since launching operations, representing 44.4 percent of the region's target population of 1,335,685. The campaign entered its 12th day of implementation on Tuesday.

The Calabarzon region encompasses the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. Health officials have been accelerating vaccination efforts across municipalities and cities to protect children from the highly contagious measles and rubella viruses.

The supplemental immunization activity aims to close immunization gaps and ensure broader coverage among the region's pediatric population. Officials have not announced a specific timeline for completing the vaccination campaign or projected completion date for reaching the full target.
