Calabarzon police mobilize for martial law anniversary protests

LUCENA CITY — The Philippine National Police Calabarzon office has activated full-force alert status ahead of Monday's scheduled protest activities, as various sectoral organizations prepare to commemorate the declaration of martial law 54 years ago.
The regional police command said the heightened security measure is designed to ensure rapid response capability and maintain preparedness throughout the region during the commemoration period. Officers have been instructed to monitor protest activities across municipalities and cities within Calabarzon—comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon provinces.
Multisectoral groups, including labor unions, student organizations, and civil rights advocates, have announced they will hold various demonstrations and commemorative events to mark the controversial period when former President Ferdinand Marcos declared nationwide martial law in September 1972.
Police said they remain committed to upholding public safety while respecting the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and free expression. Authorities have appealed to protesters to conduct orderly activities and follow traffic regulations throughout the region.
