Calabarzon volunteers collect over 35 tons of coastal waste

LUCENA CITY — Volunteers across the Calabarzon region collected 35,105 kilograms of waste from shorelines during activities organized for the 2024 International Coastal Cleanup, demonstrating widespread community engagement in environmental protection efforts.
The cleanup drive, conducted under the theme "Clean Seas for Resilient Communities," brought together environmental advocates, civic organizations, and ordinary citizens committed to reducing marine pollution in the strategically important Calabarzon area, which encompasses Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon provinces.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources acknowledged the contributions of thousands of volunteers who participated in the coordinated effort to remove accumulated debris from coastal ecosystems. Officials characterized the initiative as a significant achievement in the broader campaign to protect the Philippines' marine biodiversity and support the livelihoods of fishing communities dependent on healthy ocean resources.
