Calamba swelters under dangerous heat index of 43°C

LUCENA CITY — Calamba City recorded a heat index of 43°C on Tuesday, triggering a "danger" classification from heat monitoring agencies and prompting urgent advisories from local officials.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) issued a public warning as the extreme temperatures posed significant health risks to residents. The advisory cautioned against prolonged sun exposure and recommended that people remain indoors during peak heat hours whenever possible.

Heat indices in the "danger" category increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly among vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions. Authorities advised residents to stay hydrated, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and seek immediate medical attention if experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, or rapid heartbeat.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continues to monitor weather patterns across the region as the country enters the hot dry season. Local government units have been instructed to maintain emergency response protocols and ensure adequate water supply and medical facilities are available.
