CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Widespread flooding has affected 23 barangays across Calapan City as persistent rains from the southwest monsoon continue to batter the province, local disaster management officials reported Wednesday.

The Calapan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council documented at least 739 residents evacuated from their homes as of early morning observations. A situational report from the city government indicated that 111 families were among those displaced by rising floodwaters.

The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, has intensified weather conditions across Oriental Mindoro in recent days, contributing to the flooding crisis in the coastal city. Authorities are continuing to monitor water levels and assess damage across the affected barangays.

Calapan City officials have activated emergency response protocols to assist evacuees, with rescue and relief operations ongoing in the hardest-hit communities. The city disaster council is coordinating with provincial and national agencies to provide assistance to displaced families.
