The Calcutta High Court has extended security cover for Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra during her visits to her constituency through November 30, responding to security concerns raised by her legal team.
According to submissions before the court, Moitra's counsel Arka Nag highlighted several incidents of violence that occurred following a September 1 court order regarding her constituency access. The incidents included egg pelting and mob attacks during her visits to the area.
The court's decision to prolong the security arrangement reflects judicial acknowledgment of the safety risks faced by the MP during her public engagements. The extension provides continued protection for Moitra as she conducts her constituency work and political activities.
This marks the continuation of security measures that had been previously ordered by the high court, now extended for an additional period to ensure unhindered access for the MP to her constituency and its residents. The matter underscores ongoing tensions surrounding political activities in the region.
