California Court Orders Former Partner to Pay $66,000 in Legal Fees

A California court has ruled that Matthew Shroder's former partner must pay $66,192.50 in legal fees after Shroder achieved a partial victory in a motion to strike filed in their property dispute. The pair are currently locked in legal proceedings over a jointly owned property located in Sausalito.

Shroder had initially sought $90,010 in attorney fees from his former partner. The court approved a smaller amount, breaking down the award into $40,887.50 for anti-SLAPP proceedings—legal actions filed to inhibit lawful speech—and $21,700 for the fee application itself.

While the fee award provides some relief to Shroder, it does not resolve the underlying property conflict between the two parties. The dispute over the jointly owned property remains ongoing, with the full resolution of their legal disagreement still pending before the court.
