Calumpit residents demand transparency in flood control project

CALUMPIT, Bulacan — Residents of this flood-vulnerable municipality staged a demonstration over the weekend demanding greater transparency from local officials overseeing ongoing flood control construction projects. The rally, organized by the civic movement Tindig Calumpitenyo, drew approximately 1,500 participants on Sunday, September 20, according to movement spokesperson Zul Kifli Magat.

The march reflects growing public concern over the implementation of public works aimed at addressing the town's chronic flooding problems. The infrastructure projects have come under scrutiny following investigations into alleged administrative irregularities and anomalies documented in previous undertakings, raising questions about project oversight and fund management.

Local residents have expressed frustration over the lack of detailed information regarding project specifications, budget allocations, and contractor qualifications. Organizers of the march emphasized their calls for open documentation of all processes and progress reports accessible to the community.
