Cambodia and the European Union have moved to strengthen investment cooperation, with senior Cambodian officials underscoring the government's determination to create a more favorable environment for foreign capital and trade.

Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) Sun Chanthol emphasized in recent remarks that Phnom Penh is actively working to streamline its investment climate and reduce trade barriers. The official highlighted the critical role that collaboration between public and private sectors plays in achieving these objectives.

The initiative comes as Cambodia seeks to diversify its economic partnerships and attract quality foreign investment amid regional competition for capital flows. Government officials have signaled that improving infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and business facilitation remain top priorities.

Cambodia's push for closer EU ties on investment represents part of a broader strategy to strengthen economic partnerships with developed economies. The kingdom has faced challenges in recent months, including a decline in tourist arrivals and increased focus on agricultural development in rural areas, underscoring the government's need to diversify revenue sources through enhanced investment and trade.
