Cambodia shares digital transformation expertise with Vietnamese banking sector

The knowledge-sharing initiative underscores growing ties between Cambodia and Vietnam in banking and financial services, with Cambodian experts discussing their country's approach to modernizing financial infrastructure and managing institutional risks.

Vietnamese banking group BIDV maintains a substantial presence in Cambodia through its subsidiary, the Bank for Investment and Development of Cambodia (BIDC). The subsidiary operates from headquarters in Phnom Penh and maintains seven branches across the country, serving as a key vehicle for Vietnam's financial sector engagement in the Cambodian market.

As of June 30, BIDC's total assets reached approximately 1.05 billion USD, reflecting the scale of Vietnam's banking operations in Cambodia. The subsidiary also operates in insurance and securities businesses, diversifying BIDV's portfolio in the country.

The exchange of expertise comes as Vietnam and Cambodia continue to strengthen institutional collaboration across multiple sectors. Recent high-level discussions between the Prime Minister and Cambodia's Minister of Inspection, along with parallel initiatives between the countries' inspection authorities, signal broadening cooperation frameworks beyond the financial sector, including tourism promotion efforts led by Cambodian telecoms firm Metfone.
