Student activist groups at Presidency University and Midnapore College have joined calls for restraint following reports of disorder that originated at Jadavpur University, signalling growing concern about campus safety across West Bengal's premier educational institutions.
Bitan Islam, a student leader representing the SFI at Presidency University, stated that while ideological organisations should operate freely on campuses, violent conduct remains unacceptable. "We do not have any problem if the ABVP wants to run their organisation in the campus democratically. However, such hooliganism in the campus is not acceptable. We condemn the incident," Islam said in remarks reflecting broader student sentiment.
The statements from multiple campuses underscore mounting anxiety about political and ideological tensions among student bodies. Educational institutions across the region have increasingly witnessed confrontations between rival student groups representing different political ideologies, raising questions about the maintenance of order within academic spaces.
Authorities at the affected institutions have not yet issued formal statements regarding security measures or investigations. The incidents highlight a pattern of campus unrest that institutional administrators will need to address through dialogue and policy measures to ensure a conducive learning environment.
