Canada Boosts Immigration Points for High-Wage Workers

Canada's immigration authorities have unveiled a major overhaul of the Express Entry selection criteria, introducing bonus points designed to favour candidates working in high-wage positions. Under the revised framework, qualifying applicants can receive up to 100 extra points, substantially improving their prospects in the competitive immigration draw system.

The Express Entry system, which processes applications for permanent residence, currently operates on a points-based model that evaluates factors including language proficiency, education, work experience, and adaptability. The addition of wage-based incentives represents a deliberate strategy to prioritize workers in occupations offering higher salaries, reflecting Canada's economic priorities.

Office of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) officials indicated the changes are intended to better align immigration selections with labour market needs in high-demand sectors. By rewarding applicants in well-compensated roles, the policy seeks to attract individuals with specialized skills while supporting Canada's economic growth objectives.

The modifications to Express Entry criteria take effect immediately and apply to all new applications submitted under the system. Prospective applicants from Bangladesh and other source countries are advised to verify their occupational classification and wage levels when calculating their points eligibility under the updated framework.

Candidates currently in the Express Entry pool will not be affected retroactively, though newly registered applicants will automatically be assessed under the revised criteria. Immigration consultants recommend that interested parties review official IRCC documentation to understand how their professional background may qualify for the additional bonus points.
