Canara Bank Q2 profit climbs 8% to ₹5,175 crore on revenue growth
State-owned Canara Bank posted an 8 percent year-on-year increase in net profit for the September quarter, buoyed by strong revenue expansion and improved asset quality. The bank's total income surged to ₹40,931 crore from ₹38,598 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Canara Bank reported net profit of ₹5,175 crore for the second quarter of the current financial year, up from ₹4,774 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal, according to a regulatory filing released Wednesday. The modest profit growth was accompanied by a more robust expansion in the lender's top line, with total income rising approximately 6 percent year-on-year.
Interest income, the bank's primary revenue driver, jumped to ₹35,159 crore from ₹31,544 crore a year earlier. Net interest income—a key profitability metric—demonstrated stronger momentum, climbing 20 percent to ₹11,005 crore compared with ₹9,141 crore in the year-ago quarter. Operating profit also edged upward to ₹8,758 crore from ₹8,588 crore.
The bank's asset quality showed marked improvement, with gross non-performing assets declining to 1.33 percent of gross advances as of September 2026, a significant improvement from 2.35 percent in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. This improvement suggests enhanced credit quality and reduced stress in the bank's lending portfolio.
