The two men, identified as Carman Aday, 32, and Luwie Cencio, were recovered by the cargo ship near Subic Bay Freeport following the incident that left their fishing boat incapacitated. According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the collision with the marine mammal occurred while the fishers were operating their vessel in waters off Dasol. The impact rendered their boat unable to proceed, forcing them to remain adrift without communication equipment or immediate means of signaling for assistance. Their ordeal lasted approximately 48 hours before the cargo vessel spotted them at sea and coordinated their rescue. The PCG confirmed the recovery on Monday, October 12, and noted that both men were in stable condition following their rescue. The incident highlights the maritime hazards faced by small-scale fishing communities operating in Philippine waters, where unexpected encounters with marine life can pose serious risks to seafarers with limited safety equipment.
