Carpet Weavers Create Optical Illusion Portrait of Bachchan Dynasty

At the ongoing India Carpet Expo in Bhadohi, a four-day showcase drawing buyers from across India and abroad, one carpet has captured particular attention for its innovative design and technical execution. The handwoven creation features an optical illusion that reveals three distinct faces when viewed from different angles or distances—legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, followed by his son Amitabh Bachchan, and grandson Abhishek Bachchan.

The carpet represents a fusion of traditional weaving techniques with contemporary artistic vision. Bhadohi's renowned weavers, who have long been recognized for their craftsmanship in producing high-quality carpets for domestic and international markets, demonstrated their ability to work with intricate portraiture designs that challenge conventional carpet-making approaches.

The expo, held in the Uttar Pradesh district famous for its carpet industry, showcases diverse designs and patterns from weavers competing to attract wholesale and retail buyers. Such innovative creations highlight how artisans in the region continue to evolve their craft while maintaining traditional production methods that have made Bhadohi a significant center for carpet manufacturing in South Asia.
