Cavitex R1 Extension toll rates climb; public utility vehicles get rebates

MANILA — The Toll Regulatory Board has approved increased toll rates for the Cavitex R1 Extension linking Zapote and Kawit, effective Wednesday, October 28, marking the implementation of second-tranche charges on the busy 7-kilometer expressway corridor.

The rate hike comes after separate petitions from Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) and the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA), which jointly operate the extension. The TRB determined that the revised toll structure is justified under prevailing cost conditions and operational requirements.

Under the new toll framework, public utility vehicles including buses, jeepneys, and other passenger transport services will receive compensatory rebates to offset the impact of higher tolls. The rebate mechanism aims to mitigate effects on commuters who rely on mass transport options traversing the expressway.

The Cavitex R1 Extension, a key arterial route in Metro Manila's southern corridor, has handled significant daily traffic volumes since its opening. Officials have indicated that toll revenue adjustments support ongoing maintenance and operational costs of the facility.
