MANILA — Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday announced the appointment of minority members to six more Senate committees, expanding the opposition's presence across key legislative bodies.
During the Senate's Monday plenary session, Cayetano reiterated the minority bloc's commitment to legislative collaboration despite the constraints of their schedule. "I'd like to reiterate the offer of the minority to help. Of course, our schedule, we only have 24 hours in one day," he said.
The Senate proceeded with the committee assignments without objection, formally electing the designated minority members to their respective positions. The additions represent an effort by the minority to increase its voice in Senate deliberations across multiple policy areas.
The move comes as Congress continues its legislative agenda, with committee work playing a crucial role in reviewing bills and conducting oversight of government operations. The minority's expanded committee presence is expected to strengthen its capacity to scrutinize administration policies and propose alternative legislative measures.
