CBI arrests ED officer, constable for ₹5 lakh bribe demand in Lucknow

The CBI's anti-corruption unit took both officials into custody following a formal complaint regarding the illicit demand. According to the investigation agency, the accused had allegedly approached the complainant with an offer to provide favorable treatment in a pending Enforcement Directorate matter in exchange for the financial consideration.

The head constable and ED officer are accused of leveraging their official positions to extort money from the complainant by exploiting the latter's vulnerability regarding the ongoing ED investigation. The alleged demand was made with an implicit understanding that payment would result in intervention or assistance in resolving the case.

This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of corruption within enforcement agencies in Uttar Pradesh. The CBI has initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the full extent of the alleged misconduct and whether other complainants may have been similarly targeted by the accused officials.

Both individuals remain in CBI custody pending further interrogation. The investigation agency is examining financial records and conducting witness statements to establish the circumstances surrounding the bribe demand and any payments that may have transpired.
