The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested two officials from the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an alleged corruption case involving a Rs 5 lakh bribe demand. According to CBI officials, the agency laid a trap and caught one of the accused, identified as Manoj Dwivedi, red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe money.
The arrest follows a complaint alleging that the ED official had demanded the sum on behalf of an enforcement officer. The bribe was reportedly sought in exchange for extending favours to the complainant's father in an ongoing matter before the agency.
The CBI registered a case based on the complaint and planned the operation to catch the accused in the act of accepting the illegal payment. The arrest of the second official is part of the same investigation into the alleged conspiracy.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about corruption within government agencies tasked with financial investigations. The CBI has been intensifying its focus on graft cases involving officials who abuse their positions to extract illegal payments from citizens.
