CBI arrests two school principals over alleged bribery in separate cases

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two school principals in unrelated bribery cases, signalling continued enforcement action against educational administrators accused of financial misconduct across central and eastern India.

The first arrest involved a school principal from Madhya Pradesh, who allegedly sought ₹3 lakh from an institution to release pending bills. The demand for illicit payments reportedly hindered the timely settlement of outstanding financial obligations owed to the school.

A second principal from Odisha was separately arrested in connection with another bribery case, according to CBI officials. Details regarding the nature of allegations in the Odisha case remain under investigation.

The arrests underscore the agency's intensified focus on corruption within the education sector, where administrative officials occupy positions of financial authority. Such cases have periodically drawn regulatory scrutiny as they potentially undermine institutional functioning and divert resources from educational activities.

Investigations into both cases are ongoing, with authorities examining the full extent of alleged misconduct and potential involvement of other parties.
