CBI Probes Rs 10.24 Crore Fraud at PNB Branch in Greater Noida

The Central Bureau of Investigation has lodged a formal case following allegations of substantial financial fraud at a Punjab National Bank branch located in Sector Phi, Greater Noida. The investigation centres on the suspected embezzlement of Rs 10.24 crore from various customer accounts and fixed deposit schemes.

According to preliminary findings, a female employee at the branch is accused of systematically accessing customer accounts using the user credentials and passwords of six senior bank officials. The alleged breach of security protocols enabled unauthorised fund transfers from multiple customer accounts over an undetermined period.

The case highlights significant lapses in internal security measures and access controls at the branch. Authorities are examining how a single employee was able to operate accounts using multiple official credentials without triggering adequate oversight mechanisms.

The investigation is ongoing, with the CBI examining banking records, transaction logs, and system access data to establish the full extent of the fraud and identify all affected customers. Bank officials have been instructed to assist with the probe and provide relevant documentation. The case underscores growing concerns about cyber-security vulnerabilities within India's banking infrastructure.
