The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has implemented substantial changes to its Class 9 curriculum structure, with the revised Scheme of Studies becoming applicable from the 2026-27 academic year. Students enrolling in Class 9 during this period will follow the new framework as they progress toward their Class 10 board examinations in 2027-28.
The curriculum overhaul involves the discontinuation of multiple subjects from the existing Class 9 offerings. While the board has not detailed the complete list of removed subjects, the restructuring reflects CBSE's broader effort to streamline coursework and align educational content with contemporary learning requirements.
The revision is expected to affect lakhs of students across CBSE-affiliated schools nationwide. Educational institutions will need to review their subject offerings and academic schedules to comply with the new guidelines before the academic session begins.
CBSE periodically reviews and updates its curricula to balance academic rigor with practical skill development. The board stated that the changes were designed to enhance learning outcomes and reduce curriculum redundancy. Schools have been advised to notify parents and students about subject availability and revised course structures well in advance of the 2026-27 session.
