The Central Board of Secondary Education has revised its Class 9 curriculum scheme for the sixth time in less than seven months, with the latest round of changes resulting in the removal of three planned curricular components. Between April 2 and October 29, the board issued a series of circulars, notifications and clarifications to schools, signalling continued uncertainty over the academic framework for students in Class 9.
Among the modifications implemented during this period were successive changes to the board's three-language policy, a core aspect of Indian secondary education. The repeated revisions have raised concerns about the consistency of curriculum planning and the challenges faced by schools in implementing evolving guidelines.
The frequent updates have placed administrative and logistical pressure on educational institutions across the country, which must repeatedly adjust their curriculum delivery, teaching materials and assessment strategies to align with CBSE directives. Teachers and school administrators have had to manage the cumulative impact of six separate revisions within a compressed timeframe.
The board has not publicly detailed the rationale for the successive modifications or provided clarity on whether further changes are anticipated. Educational stakeholders have called for greater stability and advance notice regarding curriculum frameworks to ensure effective implementation and student preparedness.
