Central Government Employees Get 63% DA Hike, Triggering Pay Recalculation
India's central government employees will see their dearness allowance increase by 3 percentage points to 63%, effective immediately with arrears extending from July through October. The move is expected to reshape salary calculations under the Eighth Pay Commission framework.

Central government employees across India will receive a boost to their monthly compensation following the announcement of a dearness allowance hike that takes the DA from 60% to 63%. The increase, set to be implemented with immediate effect, will result in higher take-home pay for the country's approximately 47 lakh central employees and around 67 lakh pensioners.
Employees will also receive arrear payments covering the period from July to October, providing a lump sum adjustment for the months when the previous DA rate remained in effect. This retroactive component is expected to provide welcome relief to government workers amid persistent inflation concerns.
The DA revision, however, carries implications beyond the immediate salary increase. Officials and financial analysts have flagged that the hike may trigger adjustments to the fitment factor—the mechanism used to calibrate salary increments under the Eighth Pay Commission framework. The fitment factor directly determines how much salary enhancement government employees receive and impacts their overall compensation structure.
Finance Ministry sources indicated that relevant departments will conduct a comprehensive review of pay calculations to determine whether the current fitment factor requires recalibration in light of the elevated DA. Such a recalibration, if warranted, could influence future salary progression for central employees.
