Central Singapore's air quality deteriorates to unhealthy levels

The 24-hour PSI in central Singapore crossed into the unhealthy range at 11am on Saturday, according to monitoring data. The unhealthy classification typically indicates that the general public may experience health effects from prolonged exposure to poor air quality.

Two additional regions recorded elevated one-hour PM2.5 concentrations during the period, though these measurements remained below the unhealthy threshold for the broader air quality index. PM2.5, which refers to fine particulate matter measuring 2.5 micrometers or smaller, is a key indicator of air pollution and can penetrate deep into the respiratory system.

The National Environment Agency regularly monitors air quality across multiple stations throughout Singapore. Residents in affected areas are advised to limit outdoor activities and use N95 masks if they must venture outside during periods of poor air quality. Individuals with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions should take particular precautions.

The agency recommends checking real-time air quality readings on its website for updates on PSI levels and regional air quality conditions. Authorities continue to investigate contributing factors to the air quality fluctuations.
