Central teams survey cyclone damage as Andhra Pradesh seeks ₹4,600 crore relief

Two Central government teams have begun detailed inspections across East Godavari and Konaseima districts to evaluate the scale of damage caused by cyclone Arnab, as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu moves forward with relief efforts. The Inter-Ministerial delegations are documenting losses affecting crops, residential structures, critical public infrastructure and fishing-related assets across the affected regions. The assessment exercise is expected to form the basis for the state's formal relief package submission to New Delhi. Naidu has formally requested ₹4,600 crore in central assistance to support recovery and rehabilitation efforts in the cyclone-affected areas. West Godavari district has reported particularly severe losses, including extensive damage to paddy fields, aquaculture farms and a significant number of fishing boats. The scale of destruction across multiple economic sectors underscores the cyclone's impact on the region's agriculture-dependent population and coastal fishing communities. State authorities anticipate that the Central teams' findings will be critical in determining the level of disaster relief funds allocated to Andhra Pradesh for reconstruction and relief activities.
