Central Visayas workers to receive wage hike effective immediately

Minimum wage earners across Central Visayas will benefit from a P42 daily wage increase following the latest decision by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC). The adjustment, announced by Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, who chairs the commission, marks the latest in a series of wage increases aimed at supporting workers in the region.

Domestic workers, commonly known as kasambahays, will receive a separate monthly increase of P500 under the same directive. The commission convened to deliberate on wage adjustments for various sectors and employment categories in the Central Visayas region, which encompasses several provinces and major urban centers.

Tolentino, in his capacity as NWPC chairperson, did not specify an implementation date for the increases, though such adjustments typically take effect within days of official announcement. The wage hike comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to address cost-of-living pressures affecting workers across the archipelago.

The Central Visayas adjustment applies to workers in the region's manufacturing, retail, and service sectors covered under the minimum wage framework. Domestic workers, who have historically received separate compensation guidelines, will see their monthly stipends adjusted accordingly under the new commission ruling.
