Centre approves MSP procurement of pulses, oilseeds in Karnataka

The Union government has approved Karnataka's proposal to procure three key crops at guaranteed minimum support prices (MSP) for the kharif 2026-27 season, providing price stability to farmers across the state.

The procurement initiative covers 13,413 metric tonnes of sunflower, 38,250 metric tonnes of green gram, and 115,500 metric tonnes of soyabean, according to official sanction from the Centre. The move is aimed at supporting agricultural production in Karnataka and protecting farmer incomes against market volatility.

MSP schemes are crucial policy instruments used by the government to assure farmers of remunerative prices for their crops. By guaranteeing purchase at predetermined rates, these schemes encourage cultivators to invest in specific crops while managing supply chains more effectively.

Karnataka, a significant agricultural producer, has sought central support for these commodities, which represent important components of the state's cropping patterns. The approval reflects the government's broader commitment to supporting agricultural stability across major producing regions.
