Centre extends paramilitary deployment in Delhi through mid-November

NEW DELHI — The Centre has approved a third extension of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployment in the national capital, authorizing 270 companies to remain stationed in Delhi through November 16, the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed Thursday. The extension comes as opposition alliance INDIA bloc plans a major rally at the Ramlila grounds Sunday, with security agencies flagging potential flash protests by various groups during the deployment period. The decision was taken on the recommendation of Delhi Police, which maintains operational control over the deployed paramilitary units. The CAPF companies were originally mobilized in early October following protests by a political party, and this marks the latest in a series of extensions to manage public order. Beyond the immediate protest concerns, the Home Ministry cited the need to maintain law and order during the ongoing festival season as a contributing factor in the extension decision. Delhi Police will coordinate the deployment of all 270 CAPF companies across the city during this period.
