The Central government has sanctioned Rs 93.94 crore for the redevelopment of Maharaja Ajj Sarovar in Kharar, a significant approval that comes after prolonged consultations between Punjab authorities and Union ministries. The project represents a collaborative effort between state and central authorities to rejuvenate the water body, which holds historical importance in the region. Kharar, located in Mohali district, is home to this sarovar, which remains a landmark site in the area.
The approval process involved multiple rounds of discussions between the Punjab government and the Centre to finalize the project scope and financial allocation. These consultations ensured alignment between state development priorities and central funding guidelines before formal sanction was granted.
The redevelopment initiative is expected to focus on improving the sarovar's ecological health, enhancing recreational facilities, and ensuring better management and maintenance of the water body. Such projects typically involve restoration of shorelines, improvement of water quality, development of pathways, and creation of public amenities.
Once completed, the project is anticipated to benefit local communities while also serving as a conservation model for similar water bodies across the region. The redevelopment effort reflects the government's broader commitment to preserving and enhancing historical landmarks and natural resources in Punjab.
