Centre mandates display of healthcare charges at all clinics nationwide

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued directives requiring healthcare providers across India to make service charges and treatment package rates clearly visible at all clinics and medical centres. The step is intended to ensure patients have access to transparent pricing information before availing healthcare services.

The directive specifically addresses the need to display charges for foreign nationals travelling to India under medical visas and Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) tourism visas. By making rates easily accessible, the initiative seeks to eliminate ambiguity in pricing structures and build patient confidence in India's healthcare sector.

States and union territories have been tasked with ensuring compliance among all registered medical facilities within their jurisdictions. The requirement covers both government and private healthcare institutions, aiming to standardise transparency practices across the health services landscape.

The move aligns with India's broader healthcare sector goals of promoting medical tourism while maintaining service quality standards. Clear pricing information is expected to facilitate better patient decision-making and reduce disputes related to billing and service charges at healthcare facilities.
