Centre names Prakash Rajpurohit as Deputy Election Commissioner

The Union government has appointed IAS officer Prakash Rajpurohit as Deputy Election Commissioner in a significant bureaucratic reshuffle. The move is part of a broader round of senior-level civil service appointments approved by the Cabinet on Saturday.

Centre names Prakash Rajpurohit as Deputy Election Commissioner

Rajpurohit, a 2010-batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Rajasthan cadre, will assume the Deputy Election Commissioner position for a tenure extending until April 8, 2030. He succeeds Sanjay Kumar in the role, according to an order issued by the Personnel Ministry.

The appointment forms part of a sweeping personnel reorganization in which the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved postings for 27 civil servants at joint secretary level and equivalent positions across multiple government departments.

In related transfers, Vivek Khare, a 1996-batch Indian Telecom Service officer, has been appointed as Joint Secretary to the National Testing Agency. Additionally, four officers have been posted to the Ministry of Home Affairs as joint secretaries: Ravi Shankar, Chittaranjan Dash, P Manoj Kumar, and Abhishek Bhagotia.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare has seen appointments of Mohammed Y Safirulla K and Ritu Sharma as joint secretaries. Varnali Deka, a 2009-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been designated as Joint Secretary in the National Health division, among other senior-level placements announced in the reshuffle.
