Bihar has received Rs 10,845 crore from the central government as an advance installment of tax revenue transfers, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced on Friday. The release comes ahead of the Diwali and Chhath festivals, major celebrations observed across the state.
According to the Chief Minister, the financial assistance will enable the state government to simultaneously address its fiscal needs while accelerating ongoing development and public welfare initiatives. The timing of the transfer, just before the festive season, is expected to provide relief to the state's exchequer during peak spending periods.
The tax revenue transfer forms part of the regular fiscal transfers from the Union government to states under the existing constitutional framework. Bihar, like other states, receives such allocations to fund its administrative operations, infrastructure projects, and social welfare schemes.
The Chief Minister's statement underscores the state government's reliance on central fund transfers to maintain both routine expenditures and capital investments in development. With the festive season generating additional administrative costs and demand for public services, the advance payment is aimed at ensuring smooth functioning of state operations during this period.
