The Centre has formally sought the removal of Delhi's Qadeemi Mosque from a site needed for the Central Vista project, contending that as the land's owner, the Land and Development Office (L&DO) cannot be compelled to allocate alternative space for the religious structure.

In submissions to the relevant authority, the government asserted that ownership of the property gives it discretion over land allocation and that no separate provision is mandated within the Krishi Bhawan compound or adjoining Central Vista areas.

The Qadeemi Mosque, located in the heart of Delhi's administrative district, has stood on the contested plot for several decades. The Central Vista project, a major infrastructure and redevelopment initiative, has required acquisition of multiple parcels of land in the area.

The development has raised concerns among heritage advocates and community groups regarding the preservation of historically significant structures and minority religious sites in the capital. The matter reflects ongoing tensions between large-scale urban renewal projects and established community facilities.

The government's position underscores its interpretation of property rights and development priorities, though the final outcome will likely depend on legal proceedings and administrative review of the conflicting claims.
