Centre to withdraw cases against student protesters after march called off

The Centre has agreed to withdraw First Information Reports filed against student protesters, following the cancellation of a planned nationwide march scheduled for September 5. Union Minister J.P. Nadda welcomed the decision by the All-India Students' Federation (AISF) and other student groups to postpone the demonstration, characterising it as a responsible step.
Nadda stated that the government had engaged with BJP-ruled states regarding the matter, signalling coordination across multiple administrative levels. The minister emphasised that youth welfare and national progress remain core priorities for the administration, framing the resolution as aligned with these objectives.
The student organisations had called for the march to protest various educational and employment-related concerns. The agreement to withdraw cases against demonstrators suggests an attempt by the government to de-escalate tensions while addressing underlying grievances through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The development represents a shift in approach toward student activism, with the administration seeking to balance security concerns with recognition of legitimate youth concerns. Officials indicated that further engagement with student bodies would continue to address pending issues.
