Champi's outer bands to drench Luzon and Visayas Tuesday

MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration issued a weather advisory Tuesday, alerting residents across Luzon and the Visayas to prepare for significant rainfall driven by the outer circulation of Super Typhoon Champi.

Although Champi remained beyond the Philippine area of responsibility, the tropical system's expansive cloud bands and moisture field extended into national airspace, triggering the precipitation alert. The weather bureau projected scattered to widespread rain would persist throughout the day across multiple regions.

The advisory urged local government units and residents in vulnerable areas to monitor conditions closely and prepare for potential flooding and landslides. Heavy downpours were possible in elevated and mountainous terrain, where water accumulation posed particular risks.

Philippine forecasters noted that while the typhoon's center maintained considerable distance from the islands, the trough's effects would continue exerting influence over the coming hours. Residents were advised to stay updated on subsequent weather bulletins for any changes to the forecast.
