Chandrababu Naidu slams Congress over EVM credibility claims

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launched a sharp attack on the Congress party Wednesday over its stance on electronic voting machines (EVMs), accusing the opposition of applying a double standard in assessing electoral technology.

Naidu pointed out the inconsistency in Congress's position on EVMs, saying the party celebrates the machines when election results align with their expectations but disputes their reliability when outcomes prove unfavourable. "One cannot praise EVMs after winning elections and then blame them after losing," the Chief Minister stated, underlining what he characterized as the opposition's selective criticism.

The Andhra Pradesh leader emphasized that political parties must focus on earning genuine public confidence rather than attributing electoral outcomes to technological factors. "What matters is the trust of the people, not the trust in machines," Naidu said, reinforcing his argument that electoral success depends on connecting with voters rather than questioning the integrity of voting systems.

Naidu's comments reflect ongoing tensions between the ruling TDP and the Congress party over election management and accountability. The remarks come amid broader debates in Indian politics about electoral processes and institutional credibility.
