Chanu eyes elusive Asian Games medal in weightlifting competition

Mirabai Chanu will take to the platform on Wednesday with a singular objective: finally securing an Asian Games medal to complete her trophy collection. The 32-year-old has previously missed out at the continental showcase, finishing ninth on her debut in 2014 and enduring a fourth-place finish at the 2023 Hangzhou Games following a hip injury sustained during competition.

Chanu missed the 2018 Asian Games edition entirely due to a back injury, but has since undergone targeted preparation for this year's competition under chief coach Vijay Sharma. Her recent Commonwealth Games gold medal victory has demonstrated her current form and competitive readiness.
